SHERWOOD (NBC 26) — Saturday's storm rolled though the Lake Winnebago area with high wind and torrential rain. The severe weather left a trail of downed trees and power lines in its wake.

At High Cliff State Park, the heavily wooded campground saw several large branches and trees down.

A group of campers at the family campground were struck by a fallen tree during the storm.

The group was sheltering in the tent when the storm hit the area. Two of the campers were taken to the hospital with various injuries.

Others around the campground sheltered where they could after they saw the severe warned storm moving in on the horizon.

Some said they decided to head into town to seek shelter while others rode out the storm in tents and RVs.

Just down the road at the state park's marina, harbormaster Sam Johnson said the storm surge surprised him.

He said that Neenah saw a one foot increase in water level and guessed it was even higher at the park.

"On the other side where the wind was coming we probably saw a two foot surge that came in," said Johnson.

The marina avoided any severe damage, but Johnson said boat owners were concerned about the severity of the storm.

"I talked to some of the more seasoned slip owners and they told me they hadn't seen something like that for ten years or more," said Johnson.
