MENASHA (NBC26) — Got someone in your life who’s really ‘bugging’ you? Now you can turn them into one.
J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue is saying ‘bah humbug’ to Valentine’s Day this year with the perfect fundraiser for anyone with a loathsome ex in their life.
“One of the things that we kind of wanted to have fun with was a play on Valentine’s Day," said John Moyles, director of the rescue. "This year, we’re doing kind of like an anti-valentine’s day.”
For five dollars, you can turn your former lover into a cockroach, and for 25, you can turn them into a rat, through the animal rescue’s ‘Achy Breaky Bugs’ virtual fundraiser. These bugs and rodents will be named, and fed, to animals on Valentine’s Day.
“Could be an ex, could be someone who just bugs, you could be someone that you’re currently in a relationship with," said Moyles. "Just a fun way to vent, get rid of bad vibes. With the year that we had last year, it was really stressful, and it was just hard on everybody, so it’s just a way to kind of have fun and poke fun at Valentine’s Day, while helping homeless pets, which is awesome too.”
Achy Breaky Bugs is new this year, but the rescue will definitely be bringing it back for Valentine’s Days to come, said Moyles. With more than 200 animals in the Menasha rescue, this fundraiser is great for everyone involved.
“We’ll probably continue this every year because our animals have to eat one way or the other," he said. "So we might as well try to raise some money while we do it.”
You have until February 13th at 5 p.m. to submit your order. Then on Valentine’s Day at 5 p.m., the rescue will have a live feeding on Facebook Live.
