UPDATE: A man is in custody after an early morning incident in Shawano County.

Dispatchers say they were called around 12:30 a.m. to check on someone on Highway 29.

The caller said a man who had a truck and camper on the side of the road threw a folding chair at the caller's semi when he drove by.

Deputies responded, and the man tried running away with an axe.

Authorities say he started running to a property just off Highway 29 and climbed the ladder of a metal grain silo and started making comments about having explosives and other devices in the truck and camper which would hurt law enforcement.

Due to those comments, Hwy 29 was shut down completely between Hwy 45 and Co Rd J.

The Shawano County Special Response Team was paged to respond as well.

Deputies continued talking with the man for nearly two hours before he eventually came down from the grain silo on his own.

Once down, he was detained.

EMS was on scene to evaluate him and then took him to a hospital.

The Shawano County Human Services was contacted, and they placed him on an emergency protective custody hold.

Marathon and Brown County Bomb Squads were requested and responded to the scene as well.

They assessed both the truck and camper and determined them to be safe.

The truck and camper were then towed from the area around 4:30 a.m. and traffic reopened.

Since an emergency protective hold is in place, authorities say they are waiting to release the man's name.
