GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — The Friday Fish fry is a Wisconsin way of life..
For many people, that didn't change this week, even as so much else has.
"We're just going to relax, take it easy with the neighbors," Galley 57 customer Don Isaacson said.
"We're actually here for my birthday," customer Barb Zich said.
More than a hundred customers at Galley 57 made their way inside for a Friday night fish fry. Still, it's not quite business as usual.
"Right now it's not so typical considering what's going on," chef and owner Andy Mueller said.
Mueller estimates the coronavirus has led to about a 30% cut in business.
"Getting back to normal is the goal right now," he said. "We're probably a little bit further away then we want to be, but progress is being made."
Mueller said there's a heightened focus on sanitation. Surfaces are being cleaned and wiped down more often with a goal of making customers feel at ease.
"Really making sure that people know that we really care what their environment is," Mueller said.
Customers today we talked with say that coronavirus is on their minds, but it won't stop them from coming out.
"We were going to do it," Zich said. We had no inhibitions."
Not with a wisconsin tradition to uphold and a Friday night fish fry to enjoy.
