ALLOUEZ (NBC 26) — With late season cold weather on its way for Friday night that's placing several areas under frost warnings and advisories, we sought some tips from Peggy Schroeder, co-owner of Schroeder's Flowers in Allouez, about what people should do to protect their plants.
Plants need to be covered, especially plants that are susceptible to the cold, she said.
"They should cover them with sheets," Schroeder said. "Or if it's a hanging basket, bring it inside or into the garage. I know one person is saying they have a lot of plants on their deck. They're going to have a fan going so there's constant breeze, that will help with the frost. Just like farmers do in Florida with oranges."
As for gardens, some things may be OK, but it'd help to cover any plants you're worried about with a sheet, Schroeder said.
"If you cover them with plastic, you've got to make sure you tent it," she said. "Because you can't have the plastic on the plants."
