Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay ranked in the top 20 cities for beer drinkers in the fifth annual study by SmartAsset , a financial technology company.
Madison was ranked number eight on the list, Milwaukee number 16 and Green Bay number 20.
Madison has 16 breweries and averages about 70 beers per brewery. There are 31 bars per 100,000 residents, according to the report. In Madison, a pint averages $4.
Milwaukee has 30 breweries and averages about 46 beers per brewery. There are about 34 bars per 100,000, and a pint averages $5.
Green Bay has seven breweries and averages about 73 beers per brewery. There are about 39 bars per 100,000, and a pint costs $3.50 on average.
Cincinnati topped the list at number one.
Researchers looked at the following five factors: the total number breweries, the number breweries per 100,000 residents, average number of beers per brewery, number of bars per 100,000 residents and the average price for a pint of beer.
The U.S. beer industry sells more than $119.3 billion beverages each year, according to the National Beer Wholesalers Association . In 2018, U.S. consumers 21 years old older consumed 26.5 gallons of beer and cider per person, according to the NBWA.
Wisconsin's rankings improved from last year's report. In 2018 , Green Bay ranked number 12, Madison number 16 and Milwaukee at number 21.
