GREEN BAY, (Wis.) — It's a day many parents have been waiting for. Today, kids as young as five years old started to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
"As a parent, I chose that. I wanted them to be safe and be vaccinated against COVID and now we don't have to worry about the side effects of COVID as much as when they weren't," adds Nyhesall.
On Friday across the state of Wisconsin kids and their parents were lining up, putting on their game faces, as five to eleven-year-olds became eligible for a Pfizer vaccination.
"I'm very proud of them. They were brave and excited. Weston was cheering, "I get to get vaccinated this morning," so I am very proud of them," says proud mom Kristin Nyhesall.
The dosage is about one-third of the vaccination that older groups have been receiving and it's administered with a smaller needle. And the kids from northeast Wisconsin on the receiving end of the jab, played it rather cool.
"It felt like a little pinch, not much," says Nathan Nyhesall who got vaccinated on Friday.
Nationwide doctors are emphasizing that the Pfizer shot is both FDA and CDC approved, and for families getting the shot today, well, they have a mere five weeks to go before their youngsters are fully vaccinated. Which in turn means that many families are preparing to get in on all of the things they've missed out on for nearly two years.
"I think traveling will be the big thing. We really have not gone anywhere since all of this. We're both in the medical field so we've been busy with kids and school. It will be nice to be able to travel and go places again," says Kathy Merrill whose son just got vaccinated.
Whether it's a trip to grandma's house, a vacation put on the back burner, or just more visits to your family's favorite restaurant; this vaccination is opening doors for families in Wisconsin and many parents are just relieved that it's finally happening.
