DE PERE, Wis. (NBC 26) -- Local businesses have had a tough year so far due to the coronavirus pandemic. Starting and opening a business is hard work and opening a business during a pandemic is far from easy.

Ruth Fameree has dreamed of opening her own business for years and after a donating a kidney to her husband she says she felt like she had waited long enough and it was time to pursue her goals. She says her and her husband looked at the space at 116 N. Broadway Street. It would become the home of SmithMaker Artisan Co. and it would focus on celebrating local artists and other small businesses throughout Wisconsin and the United States.

Fameree says there are a lot of things she has had to change and adapt to due to the health concerns surrounding covid-19, but she says this has been an incredible blessing as well getting to connect with other small businesses in the community.

Fameree says they plan to open on July 20th. They will be requiring masks to be worn inside the shop and will have a capacity limit for the amount of people allowed into the store of roughly 10 people.

She also says she originally didn't plan on having a website to purchase from online, but with the circumstances she has made another adjustment and shoppers can purchase online from her website and pickup curbside if they would like.
