GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — A cat is now back at a local shelter following an apparent "catnapping" ordeal.
According to Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary, a shelter that hosts a cat cafe located in downtown Green Bay, someone took a black and white cat named Bleu. Safe Haven says Bleu was stolen Wednesday afternoon by a customer who snuck out the side door.
According to Facebook posts on Safe Haven's page, the animal shelter identified the person and said the person kept the cat in their apartment overnight. Safe Haven said the person refused to open the door for police.
NBC 26 is choosing not to identify this person since they have not been formally charged with a crime at this time. The Green Bay Police Department told NBC 26 that they are investigating the incident.
The following day, the owner and founder of Safe Haven, Elizabeth Feldhausen, posted a Facebook video saying that Bleu had been returned. Feldhausen said the suspected catnapper was spotted walking in the downtown area with a duffle bag. Feldhausen said someone associated with Safe Haven confronted the person, asking for the cat back.
Feldhausen said the person returned the cat, which was in the duffle bag the person was carrying. Feldhausen said she was heading back to Safe Haven to examine Bleu.
