GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Tarl Knight, the director of Green Bay’s new Shipyard District and owner of the city’s historic westside theatre, The Tarlton Theatre, announced he will be running for Green Bay’s City Council District 9.

Since 2018, Knight has owned and operated The Tarlton Theatre, whose mission is to bring variety of affordable programming to the area and partner with local nonprofit organizations to support various local causes. Since last year, Knight has also served as director of Green Bay’s new Shipyard District to revitalize the South Broadway business area on the west side.

“As a local business owner, I know what matters to our local, independent businesses," said Knight. "I know the struggles and priorities of our working-class families, and I know what it’s like for houselessness to be a single paycheck away,” Knight said. “As we continue to redevelop, it’s vital we raise the standard of living and introduce affordable opportunities for people of all incomes. I’ll be proud to represent the working-class people of District 9 as we continue to create a Green Bay for all.”

Knight had previously ran a campaign for City Council in 2020. The current Counselor for District 9 is Brian Johnson, the Executive Director of On Broadway.
