Suspect in Green Bay standoff arrest identified

GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Police identified a man at the center of a standoff that happened in Green Bay over the weekend.

On Sunday, Green Bay Police said officers received information that a person wanted for several felony warrants was located within the city. The suspect, 29-year-old Tou Vang, was seen driving on the East Side of Green Bay shortly after 11:00 am.

Police said officers tried to pull Vang over, but he drove off and officers pursued. At the 600 block of W. Walnut Street, police said officers used a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) to end the chase.

According to Green Bay Police, Vang was armed with a handgun and fired at officers who in turn returned fire. No one was injured in the exchange of gun fire. A standoff ensued that last several hours.

Police said GBPD SWAT team and negotiators were called to the scene. Negotiators were able to contact Vang by phone and they successfully got Vang to surrender without further incident. He was transported to the Brown County jail on several felony warrants, a parole violation and new charges related to the incident.

Green Bay Police also said the officers who fired their weapons are placed on administrative leave as part of department policy.
