WISCONSIN (NBC 26) — Despite the lack of heat this weekend, the unofficial kick-off to summer is here.
As people are heading to State Parks for recreational activities, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has a few things to keep in mind when planning a visit.
If you plan on going fishing this weekend don't forget to get your 2021 fishing license! All anglers 16 years of age and older (unless born before 1927) need a valid fishing license.
Here is a picture from High Cliff State Park on Sunday.
Many families took advantage to do some hiking and climb to the top of the tower in the comfortable weather.
Other families were seen having picnics:
The majority of DNR properties are open, with special conditions to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and protect natural resources.
You can alsoclick here to view more of the DNR and COVID-19 guidelines. The DNR says at times, properties may reach their pre-determined capacity.
When this happens, visitors may be denied entry to the park until existing visitors leave.
Visitors are encouraged to explore other DNR recreation properties or visit during non-peak hours (before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m.).
The DNR also has a resource online that you can check the current capacity status of each property you are interested in visiting. Click here to be redirected to that.
Below are some tips from the DNR on camping season:
For one group of children they said went camping this weekend with their families.
“We are camping somewhere and we just wanted t go on a hike. By the cliffs we saw a really nice view and we went up the tower and saw at a different angle,” said Sachin M. “Camping yeah it was pretty good although last night was very cold. We had like four blankets each and it was really cold. Yeah it was really cold and humid too but it was fun.”
The 10-year-old said he was just happy to spend quality time with some of his closest friends.
