GREEN BAY, Wis. — It was a warm welcome for the family of a Hall of Fame quarterback inside Lambeau Field on Friday.
Cherry and Bart Starr junior delighted the Green and Gold Gala crowd with memories of a Packers icon.
Prior to that event, the Starr's said Green Bay will always be a second home. For them, that home is also where the heart is.
"We love the city, we love the team, we love the community, and we feel like we'll always be part of it," Cherry said.
"A lot of people here in this city believed in him when other people didn't," Bart Jr. said. "That continued all the way through, even after his playing and coaching career was over, every time he came back that connection was something he cherished more than you can imagine. Wherever he would go, every state where he would travel, he loved telling people of the quality of individuals who comprised this community and how that inspired him."
That connection was felt Friday night. While the Starr family was reminded again what Bart Starr means to Green bay, they want to remind everyone what the city means to them.
"This is amazing, an absolutely amazing day," Cherry said. "I never thought I'd be here under such circumstances, but i was so pleased when they told me what they wanted to do, and Bart would be so proud, I know he would be. He'd be so happy. He felt so honored to be a Packer, and he loved coming back. We follow the Packers every Sunday, we're their biggest fans still. I miss him so much."
The Starr family will join thousands of fans at the Rawhide Boys Ranch on Saturday to continue the weekend events.
