GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — A major winter storm keeps many people inside, but for others it's a chance to enjoy the best that Mother Nature has to offer.
We talked with one person, and saw a few others, who got outside during the storm with man's best friend.
"I love the snow so don't get me wrong," Adam Willen said. "I'll come out whenever but just being outside, and obviously with long days working, a breath of fresh air always does wonders so that's what I figured, I can get a good walk in, then head back to work."
It may be a different story in the days ahead, however. The snow is expected to turn to bitter cold as we head into the weekend.
Steve Grenier, director of Green Bay Public Works, said the city had more than 20 snow plows on the roads Thursday afternoon.
The plan was for crews to work until 7 p.m. Thursday and return to work around midnight. Grenier said that would give them some much needed rest before they begin a full plow throughout the city, which could take between eight and 10 hours.
“The intent would be to make sure our primaries are open at all times if we can. Then we will get into the residential when we come back tonight. We’d like to get a full pass through the city before folks go to work tomorrow," Grenier said.
The full plow will include 85 pieces of snow removal equipment.
Grenier said they will need to wait for warmer temperatures before sending out graders and loaders to carry out scraping operations in residential areas.
He expects crews will conduct a post-storm cleanup in the middle to end of next week.
