SHAWANO COUNTY, Wis. (NBC 26) - A Shawano County Sheriff's Deputy is on leave after an officer shooting in the town of Red Springs Thursday.

It happened around 9:30 that night when dispatch received a 911 call of a crash north of Gresham in Shawano County.

According to authorities, a deputy responded to the scene, where he found a single-car crash and a male driver. Authorities say the driver had a gun in his hands and the deputy asked him to put down the weapon. The suspect did not put down the gun and raised it at the officer. The officer then fired at the suspect, hitting him.

The suspect was provided emergency medical support and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The Sheriff's Deputy is now on administrative leave as the investigation continues by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. All involved law enforcement are cooperating with the investigation.
