GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Sen. Tammy Baldwin visited Green Bay Drop Forge Thursday morning to meet with employees, tour the facility and highlight her bipartisan efforts to strengthen Buy America requirements for the federal government to support American businesses and workers.

The federal government spends billions of taxpayer dollars on infrastructure projects each year that are not subject to Buy America requirements, Baldwin said. The result is American taxpayer money being spent to buy foreign products, supporting workers in other countries instead of American businesses and workers.

"President Biden outlined the American Jobs Plan," Baldwin said. "It was very visionary, but he's also leaving it to congress to fill in the details."

Buy American reforms are included in the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act that is heading to the Senate floor for a vote next week. Baldwin said this will help ensure when the nation spends taxpayer dollars on infrastructure projects, they are subject to strong Buy America requirements.

"I'm personally supportive of the way that President Biden recommended that we pay for this," Baldwin said. "But, what we can't do is kick the can down the road, for decade after decade the way we have so far. This is about deferred maintenance and we've gotta get it done."

The Made in America Act is supported by Green Bay Drop Forge and manufacturers across Wisconsin, according to Baldwin.
