APPLETON (NBC 26) — Appleton International Airport received a $750,000 grant to support a new air service, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced Wednesday.
According to a statement on the senator's website, the funding will be used for a revenue guarantee, marketing, start-up cost offsets, and fee waivers for service to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on American Airlines.
“This federal investment from the Biden Administration will allow ATW to make up for some of the canceled routes and reduced flights that have hurt northeast Wisconsin,” Baldwin said. “With this federal funding, we will put people back to work and help attract more travelers to our great state.”
“Our community partners really stepped up to help us craft a winning proposal,” said Abe Weber, airport director. “While we appreciate already-existing air service, we look forward to offering our travelers even more options. When American Airlines is ready to add nonstop service to Dallas from northeast Wisconsin, our community is ready to support the new route.”
The grant is from the Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development Program. The grant program is designed to help small communities address air service and airfare issues. The Department of Transportation selected 22 applications from 22 states, totaling nearly $18 million in federal grant assistance.
