Search underway for pilot after F-16 crashes in Upper Peninsula

DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (NBC 26) - A search is underway for a missing pilot after an F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed in Michigan's Upper Peninsula around 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

The F-16 was assigned to the Wisconsin Air National Guard's 115th Fighter Wing at Truax Field Air National Guard Base in Madison. The pilot was performing a routine training mission when the crash happened in Delta County, Michigan.

The 115th Fighter Wing worked with emergency responders, the U.S. Coast Guard, and other government agencies overnight, and search and rescue efforts continue Wednesday. Additional help will be sent later in the day.

The pilot's status is unknown at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
