WAUPACA COUNTY (NBC 26) — The search is on for a suspect after a shooting near the Wolf River Campground on Sunday.
According to Waupaca County Sheriff Timothy Wilz, the sheriff's department received a call at about 4:20 p.m. Sunday that someone tubing on the Wolf River was shot in the head by another tuber. According to the sheriff, they were floating south of Ostrander Road near the Wolf River Campground.
The sheriff's department said the shooter and the victim likely knew each other and that the shooting reportedly happened after a fight took place. The 35-year-old victim was flown out by helicopter with a non-life-threatening injury.
The suspected shooter was believed to be in Green Bay Sunday evening and Green Bay Police are assisting. The suspect is not yet in custody. Detectives are following up Monday, but not all witnesses are being forthcoming, according to the sheriff, and some were intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
The public is not in danger in the campground or surrounding area, Wilz said.
