OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- State authorities have officially identified the school resource officer who authorities say was stabbed in an incident at Oshkosh West High School on Tuesday.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said Oshkosh Police Department School Resource Officer Michael Wissink has been an officer with Oshkosh Police Department for 21 years and has been a school resource officer since 2017.
The DOJ said a student was armed with a weapon Tuesday and confronted Wissink. The student and officer were both injured and transported to local hospitals. No other students, school staff members, citizens or law enforcement personnel were injured, the DOJ said in a news release.
According to the DOJ, DCI is continuing to gather evidence and determine the facts from Tuesday's incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Winnebago County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.
