MANITOWOC (NBC 26) — The S.S. Badger Lake Michigan Carferry made its maiden voyage today.

The S.S. Badger arrived at the carferry dock early this afternoon after departing from Ludington, Mich., about four hours earlier.

Students from Lincoln High School, Lutheran High School and Roncalli High School band programs were on site to welcome the S.S. Badger and its passengers by playing “A Jubilant March,” which was composed for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Manitowoc.

The carferry was scheduled to depart Manitowoc at 3 p.m., one hour later than its normally scheduled departure time.

In celebration of the first sailing this season, and the first sailing under new ownership, Interlake Maritime Services arranged a fireworks show for 8:30 p.m. today on the Manitowoc lakefront. Those wishing to view the fireworks, which are expected to last about 20 to 25 minutes, are invited to do so anywhere on the Manitowoc shoreline.

In December 2020, Lake Michigan Car Ferry, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Interlake Maritime Services, purchased the S.S. Badger.
