DE PERE (NBC 26) — Ahead of Valentine’s Day, dozens of people headed to the streets of De Pere Saturday morning to run for chocolate.
The Seroogy’s Valentine Run and Walk brought out runners, even in below-freezing temperatures.
Families were bundled up and many were dressed up in red, sporting a Valentine spirit as they either made their way through the 15K or 5K route.
One racer said she’s been participating in this race almost every year because it is one of her favorites.
“This is one of my first I ever did when I started getting into running and I absolutely love it,” said Celine Day, of Sturgeon Bay.
"It’s always cold but it’s always so much fun."
She also shared how she stays safe on the course route, especially as there is still so much snow left on the ground.
“If you have to walk, you have to walk. It’s winter time, you don’t want to injure yourself and ruin the runs for the rest of the year,” Day said.
Day was accompanied by her friend for support and encouragement.
“We’re actually going to start doing more runs together, and kind of time it out and see if we can get better throughout the year,” said Bobbie Gilson, of Sturgeon Bay.
After the race, hot chocolate and coffee were served in order to help folks warm up.
Proceeds from this race go to Golden House, a domestic violence program serving victims in Brown County.
