GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- The high Lake Michigan water levels combined with Wednesday’s strong northeast winds caused flash flooding in the Green Bay area.
50 mile per hour gusts were pushing the Bay of Green Bay's water back into the Fox and East Rivers, flooding many low-lying areas, and even forcing some residents on Green Bay's East Shore Drive out of their homes.
"Home evacuations are currently being done by the fire department,” said Green Bay Police Commander Kevin Warych. “We have officers monitoring several locations throughout the city, working very closely with the fire department to make sure that everybody is taken care of."
As gusty winds continue into the evening, the Green Bay Police Department says you should expect to see road closures in low lying areas.
