BROWN COUNTY (NBC 26) -- A previous report about someone impersonating an officer in Allouez turned out to be false, the Brown County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.
The Sheriff's Office previously reported that a person was approached at a parking lot near a gas station in Allouez by someone claiming to be an officer and demanding to see work papers. The Sheriff's Office now says that report is false.
"Much like there are laws and penalties against impersonating a police officer, there are also laws and penalties against filing a false police report," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
This is different from another similar report of a man accused of impersonating an officer and "checking" someone's compliance with the "stay at home" order.
