DE PERE (NBC 26) — On Friday, Representative Mike Gallagher presented medals posthumously to the family of Mary Benham, who served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1946.

“She has always been the gold standard. So, if she can do it, certainly I can do it. And what a gift to have that in our family, but what a gift to share with all the other women that are growing up and looking for some 'She-roes’,” said granddaughter Ashley Prange.

During the war, Benham played a critical role in maintaining the supply and setup of operating tents and was in charge of surgical teams.
