PESHTIGO (NBC 26) — Vega Frances Ellis passed away just weeks shy of her third birthday after a difficult battle with leukemia.
"She is smiley and she is just Vega and I think that is a personality trait in it self,” said Vega’s mom Shelley as she described her daughter.
Two-year-old Vega will always be remembered by loved ones as a resilient warrior and a bright star through the dark and difficult times.
"She had a really tough start and she made the best of it what she could,” said Brittany, Vega's aunt.
Little Vega passed away last week but through the struggles, her final days were filled with joy.
Below is a video with family members sharing how they will remember Vega:
"We'll forever be grateful that we got to take that trip with her and that the whole family got to play and be together. Because really that was it. It was a day or two later when she left to join the stars,” said Rose Ebel, Vega’s aunt.
Vega's last days were spent at the Happiest Place on Earth, Disney World.
She spent a few magical days as a princess.
“She loved the fireworks so much, she really wouldn’t want to take her eyes off of it,” said her cousin Hillel Klug.
"Vega got to meet Minnie and Mickey personally. She got to see the fireworks which were her absolute favorite, with the castle all lit up for the 50th anniversary,” said Ebel.
Surrounded by those that meant the world to her, Vega created endless memories that her family will remember forever.
"It's overwhelming but those will be the best days of my life that we spent with her,” Brittany said.
Vega is survived by her parents Shelley and Billy, her sister, and a whole community that loves her.
“She was filled with happiness and she gave that happiness to those around her,” said her aunt Crystal Klug.
Vega would have turned three years old on September 13. Her family says they celebrated early with a puppy-themed birthday party and lots of chocolate.
Across the community, businesses have been displaying 'Vega Strong'
The business pictured above for example was one of Vega's favorite in Peshtigo because her dad worked on it. Family members describe Vega as always saying that her father built her this ice cream shop. She was proud of it.
