NEENAH (NBC26) — An eight-month-old puppy came to Neenah Animal Shelter just a week ago. 'Dorian’ arrived with a slight limp in his walk, and a visit to the vet showed he would need surgeries on both his rear legs.
“Being a young puppy, he probably just did something really silly that ended up in a drastic injury," said Ellen Pichler, Shelter Coordinator.
The surgeries for the two fractured tibias on Dorian's rear legs would cost $5,000. Pichler was worried they wouldn’t be able to raise the money to do the surgery as soon as possible on the growing puppy, she said, but the community stepped up.
“We were flooded with support for him," said Pichler.
In just a couple days, the shelter raised more than $7,000 after sharing Dorian’s story on social media.
“We were able to get him in right away to do the surgery," said Pichler. "We have a foster that stepped up and was able to take him in, so he’ll go through recovery here.”
The shelter has never raised so much so fast, she said.
“I think it was just his age, his cuteness, his big ears," said Pichler.
Any money not spent on Dorian will go towards their 'Help Me Heal’ fund.
“It will continue to help other animals that come to the shelter that are in need," said Pichler.
Right now, the Neenah Animal Shelter does still have animals in need; they have another dog with Cushing’s disease. You can donate to the shelter’s Help Me Heal fund here.
