PULASKI (NBC 26) — People in Pulaski are dealing with damages left behind by Wednesday's storm.

Severe weather rolled across the area in the afternoon. People experienced a tornado followed by heavy rainfall.

"I actually started seeing the funnel cloud form above what would be this block, and we started approaching closer, and closer, and as I looked behind me you could actually see the tornado touch the ground," said Evan Burnette, Pulaski.

A large tree fell into the yard where Burnette lives on Chicago Street, narrowly missing the house where his 13-year-old brother was.

"It was very scary," said Lakin Williquette, who also lives in the house and was driving in the car with Burnette and her 2-year-old daughter when the storm hit. "When we saw the tornado behind us we just wanted to get home as fast as possible. And knowing that there was someone here (who's) young, and alone, and scared. We just wanted to get home as fast as possible."

Crews cut down the tree Wednesday evening and left debris on the curb for pick up.

Burnette and Williquette said the house had no structural damage and no one was injured during the storm.

The house across the street wasn't so lucky. A tree went through the roof of the house, forcing the family to evacuate.

Joe Witt, owner of Witt Family Ford, saw the tornado touch down behind the dealership. He said it was quiet just moments before the tornado.

"The American flag that we have was not moving at all," Witt said. Then we saw the alarms on our phones. It was not raining. Nothing. That's when we saw two lower clouds come in and that's when it got exhilarating."

Pulaski residents said they will continue to clean up debris over the next few days.
