GREEN BAY, Wis (NBC 26) -- On Friday morning, just off of West Mason and Taylor Street, traffic backed up for nearly a quarter of a mile as hundreds of folks jumped into a line to get their hands on the latest fast-food Green Bay has to offer.

Popeyes opened at 10:30 am and many folks jumped into line as early as 7:30 am to make sure they were one of the first in town, to get their hands on some chicken.

"Cause the chicken is just that good. That chicken is so good, I'm telling you you're going to eat it 3-4-5 times a week. It's that good," said a Popeyes fanatic, Johnny Howard.

The restaurant is only offering curbside pickup and drive-thru service for the time being. The store's General Manager says every time he opens a new restaurant in a community that hasn't had a Popeyes in the past, they get a similar reaction from the community.

It's this way everywhere we go. This city is a little more intense. We got them double stacked and into Mason Street now and that's probably a quarter of a mile," said Franchisee Brian Smith describing the excessive line to get a chicken sandwich.

The Green Bay Police Department did notify the public Friday afternoon that the traffic on West Mason should be expected through the weekend. If you can avoid the area, police recommend that you do.
