WINNEBAGO COUNTY (NBC 26) — Police are looking for a suspect accused of stealing three different vehicles while evading police during a chase Sunday night.
According to Wisconsin State Patrol, a trooper spotted a stolen vehicle on Interstate 41 southbound in the area of Breezewood Lane in Winnebago County.
Police said the trooper activated his squad car lights and tried to pull the car over. State Patrol says the suspect didn't stop and a chase ensued. The suspect continued on Interstate 41 southbound and exited onto Highway 45 northbound, police said.
Then, the vehicle continued northbound on Highway 45 before turning eastbound on Highway GG. In the area of Highway GG at Highway 76, the vehicle crashed.
State Patrol said after the crash, the suspect ran off. While authorities were setting up a perimeter, State Patrol said the suspect stole a second vehicle and tried to leave the area. A second trooper spotted and chased after the stolen vehicle. Following a short chase, the suspect crashed again, police said, this time in the town of Winneconne, and again ran off.
After leaving the second scene, police said the suspect stole a third vehicle and was able to leave the area. The third vehicle that is still missing is a white 2014 Ford Explorer with Wisconsin license plate 178-HEZ.
Troopers and a Winnebago County K9 searched the area for evidence to identify the suspect. Both crashed stolen vehicles have been impounded as evidence and will also be used to attempt to identify the suspect.
