Man in custody after armed standoff

APPLETON (NBC 26) — One man is in police custody after responding to a disturbance on Appleton's east side Monday evening.

According to Appleton police, around 5:30, officers were called to an apartment near Woodmere Court and Silvercrest Drive.

Upon arrival, officers heard what they call an "active disturbance" and made entry to the apartment. One resident evacuated the apartment and a male unknown to the resident went inside armed with a knife. Police say the suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment for over 90 minutes.

Police say that the suspect was taken into custody without incident and was brought up on multiple felony charges. Those charges include; burglary while armed, suffocation/strangulation, false imprisonment, failure to comply with officer’s attempt to take into custody, and violation of probation.

Police say the situation has been resolved and there is no active threat to the community.
