OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- The Oshkosh Police Department says Officer Michael Wissink doesn't need blood donations, contrary to claims being made on social media.

Police say Officer Wissink was stabbed by a student at Oshkosh West High School on Tuesday. Officer Wissink shot the student and both were taken to the hospital. The teen suspect has since been arrested and faces a charge of attempted homicide.

Currently, Officer Wissink is not in need for any blood donations as a result of his injury, Oshkosh Police said in a news release Thursday. Anyone wishing to donate blood should contact the American Red Cross.
