GREEN BAY, Wis. — About 10 more crossing guards are needed to help students around Green Bay, and police officers will fill the posts in the meantime, according to Green Bay Police Cmdr. Kevin Warych.

NBC 26 reported this week that the crossing guards are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Green Bay Police highlighted that in a post on Wednesday. School staff became eligible on March 1.

"Regardless of who staffs those intersections, we want to ensure the safety of those children," Cmdr. Warych said.

"But when we get the required amount of crossing guards, that will relieve some of the workload on some of the police officers to focus on other parts of your neighborhood."

Pay for the crossing guard role is $15 per hour.
