Police: Child among dead after Omro fire

OMRO (NBC 26) — A child is one of two people found dead after a fire in Omro, according to police.

The Omro Police Department identified Alex Leaman, 41 years old, and Leland Leaman, 4 years old, as the two victims found dead after a house fire on Christmas morning.

According to a previous press release from the Omro Police Department, an officer on patrol saw flames and heavy smoke near a house in the 200 block of McKinley Avenue around 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Officers attempted to make contact with the residents inside, but were hindered by heavy smoke and fire conditions. The Omro Rushford Fire Department arrived and quickly put out the fire.

The Omro Police Department said two people and a dog were found dead inside the house.

Police said the Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), State Fire Marshall have been on scene to assist with the investigation. Omro officers will remain on scene until the investigation is completed.

The investigation remains very active and ongoing, according to police.
