FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) — One of two suspects in a reported armed robbery at a Kohl's is in custody after bystanders helped detain him, according to Fond du Lac Police. Investigators are still searching for the other suspect.
Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, police said two male suspects wearing masks entered the Kohl's Department Store on W. Johnson Street in Fond du Lac. Police said one suspect was armed with a hammer and began smashing the display cases in the jewelry section and started taking jewelry.
Police said as officers were en route to the scene, the communications center told them that a suspect was being detained by citizen bystanders. Upon arrival, officers then took that suspect into custody. No Kohl's employees or customers were reported hurt, police said.
Officers were able to recover the stolen merchandise. The 29-year-old suspect that was taken into custody is currently being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail.
The second suspect got away before officers arrived and was last seen running to the north. He was described as a Hispanic male with a medium build, last seen wearing a yellow and green traffic vest and dark pants.
