GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- A master plan for the Renard Island was revealed during the Brown County Harbor Commission Meeting on Monday.
A 72-page master plan was handed out, detailing what Brown County Port and Resource Recovery hopes will come of the 55-acre island in Green Bay.
The plan includes a marina, trails, a boater beach, retail, and parking. All of this is planned for where contaminated sediment from river clean-up used to be dumped. In 2008, it was capped, and the sediments are buried now under five to ten feet of new clean dirt.
The new plan comes after stakeholder and public meetings, and an interactive planning event to better understand what people wanted to see come of the island. Dean Haen the Board Director for Brown County Port and Resource Recovery says there's a lot of potential for the island.
"I think if we start off small and kind of phase this in, start off with some walking trails, fishing piers and then eventually work our way up to the marina and boardwalk, and those things, that that's the most likely plan for full implementation of the plan," said Haen.
After the plan was shared, there were quite a few questions about timing, water levels, and other aspects of the future for the island. Haen says there's currently no timeframe for completion.
Monday night and Wednesday, they will be pursuing county board approval.
