OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, Wis. (NBC 26) — Democrat Tom Nelson is dropping out of the Wisconsin Senate race.
Nelson, who has served as the county executive of Outagamie County since 2011, was running for the seat currently occupied by Senator Ron Johnson.
In Monday's announcement posted on Twitter, Nelson cited a lack of money as a reason for suspending his campaign. In the announcement he endorsed Mandela Barnes, calling Barnes "the one candidate who is not trying to buy this election."
Today I am suspending my campaign for the U.S. Senate. I am so thankful for the work that we have done and the movement we have built.

We ran out of money. So I am suspending our campaign and endorsing the one candidate who is not trying to buy this election: #TeamMandela
