MADISON (NBC 26) -- Three people from Oshkosh were honored Thursday at the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Officer Mike Wissink, teacher Ken Levine and student Duaa Ahmad were honored with the Hometown Hero Award.

Court documents say a student, 17-year-old Grant Fuhrman, stabbed Wissink with a barbecue fork at Oshkosh West High School on December 3, 2019. Officer Wissink fired his gun, shooting Fuhrman and himself. Levine rushed to Wissink and administered a makeshift tourniquet to treat Wissink's wounds. Fuhrman and Wissink were taken to the hospital and later released.

During the incident, students ran out of the school. Duaa Ahmad unlocked the doors of a mosque nearby and ushered students inside the building for safety.

All three were hailed as heroes for their actions.

Furhman is charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide. A trial date has not yet been set.
