OSHKOSH, Wis. (NBC 26) — 60-year-old Kevin Mueller of Oshkosh was arrested and charged on Monday, May 16, after authorities said he attempted to meet with a 13-year-old.
According to the criminal complaint, Mueller began exchanging instant messages in early May with a person he believed to be the parent of a 13-year-old girl in Oshkosh. Mueller expressed interest in engaging in sexual activity with the girl, and also sent pornographic images he wanted to be shared with her.
Mueller was actually communicating with an undercover agent working as a part of Operation Kick Boxer, a collaborative effort involving the Milwaukee Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, and the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office.
Mueller was arrested upon arrival at a prearranged meeting spot in Winnebago County.
Mueller is required to register as a sexual offender based on a 1989 First Degree Sexual Assault conviction in Milwaukee County.
He faces charges of using a computer to attempt to persuade a minor into unlawful sexual activity and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years, and up to a lifetime sentence if convicted. His status as a sexual offender registrant will require an additional mandatory ten-year sentence.
