OSHKOSH, Wis. (NBC 26) -- A board meeting to discuss mask requirements in the Oshkosh Area School District was canceled after some attendees refused to wear face coverings last week. On Monday, another special meeting will be held virtually to cover the issue.
Nearly two weeks ago, OASD announced masks are required inside all district buildings from Aug. 23 through Oct. 1.
Last Tuesday, groups of families protested the mandate in downtown Oshkosh. Before the latest meeting takes place at 6 p.m. via Zoom, parents are taking to the streets once againoutside of the district offices.
Two sets of public forums are set to take place Monday night.
In an Aug. 26 statement, superintendent Bryan Davis said the following:
"I know that community members have differing opinions on masks, but we are committed to using face coverings as one of our key mitigation measures to keep our staff and students safe and learning in-person in our schools and classrooms. We want to provide in-person instruction while protecting our families. I hope the community health data will improve and we can move away from the face covering requirement after the first month in school."
