OSHKOSH (NBC 26) — A school counselor at Carl Traeger Elementary School in Oshkosh has been recognized as a 2023 Wisconsin Teacher of the Year.
Kaelee Heideman received the honor during a surprise ceremony at the school on Wednesday. State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly, along with students and school staff, presented Heideman with the honor.
The Oshkosh Area School District credits Heideman as a leader in both the school and school district, working diligently to help students succeed.
When the COVID-19 pandemic started, the school district said Heideman continued supporting students and families through check-ins and individual counseling lessons and wrote each child at the school a personalized letter.
Heideman is the first of five surprise 2023 Wisconsin Teacher of the Year announcements. Additional information on the program can be found here on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s website.
