One woman there is a Ukrainian-American. She said this invasion hits particularly close to home.

“My parents always instilled in us that Ukraine is one. Ukraine is my family. Even though I don’t know those people out there, they are all my family,” said Helen Fetterly.

“I’m a retired anesthesiologist and I’ve been collecting medical equipment for the last 36 years before I retired four years ago. And it’s been sitting in my basement collecting dust. I’m donating it for the Ukrainian field hospital,” said Scott Behrens, Neenah.

One of the event organizers is Russian and said he wanted to show solidarity with Ukraine.

He describes the perspective of those in Russia as episodes from the Twilight Zone where people might have alternate realities.

“Those scary episodes there, I think they really simply capture the essence of what is going on there in Russia. People are waking up. My connection is that I’m from Russia, I have Ukrainian roots as well and I live in Oshkosh and I use the local resources that are available to me to make an effort and make a difference anywhere in the world that I can,” said Dmitry Sokolov, Oshkosh.
