One week wonder challenge kicks off at EAA

OSHKOSH (NBC 26) — The One Week Wonder challenge made its return to Oshkosh as part of AirVenture Oshkosh 2022.

Starting on Sunday, July 24, at 8:00 a.m., a group of volunteer aircraft builders set out to build a Sonex Waiex in one week.

The completed aircraft should be ready to taxi on Sunday, July 31.

“The One Week Wonder event brings excitement and enthusiasm to others in the community by showing what it looks like and feels like to build an aircraft from a kit,” said Charlie Becker, EAA’s director of chapters and homebuilding.

Volunteer ambassadors will be at the One Week Wonder tent answering questions about aircraft building.

AirVenture attendees also have the chance to take part in the event by pulling a rivet on the aircraft.

Anyone who pulls a rivet on the plane will get their name on the finished plane and a free One Week Wonder pin.

Those who wish to participate in other ways can do so by picking the plane's paint scheme.The winning paint scheme will be announced on Sunday, July 31 at 10 a.m.

A 24/7 livestreamof the One Week Wonder challenge can be viewed for those wishing to see the progress of the build.

Just as it has been in previous years, the One Week Wonder build provides the opportunity to show the world that anyone can build an airplane.
