WINNEBAGO COUNTY (NBC 26) — On Friday, June 25, 2021 at 6:47 am, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office responded to a traffic crash on I-41 southbound just north of CTH II/Winchester Road.

In this area, there are five lanes of travel, which includes the exit lane to CTH II, as well as the extended exit lane to Main St./Oakridge Rd. A maroon 2017 Ford Fusion was traveling in lane three (the right through traffic lane). Evidence suggests the driver of the Ford Fusion performed a lane change, attempting to cross lane four and enter lane five, in order to exit the highway onto CTH II/Winchester Rd. In changing lanes, the Ford Fusion collided with a black 2015 Chevrolet Sonic, which had been traveling in lane four lane, causing the Chevrolet Sonic to spin. The Chevrolet Sonic then hit the outside right wall, sending the car back into the travel lanes, crossing all four lanes of travel. The Chevrolet Sonic was then struck by a semi tractor-trailer that was traveling in lane one.

• Chevrolet Sonic was driven by a 55-year-old female from Neenah. The female is deceased.
• Ford Fusion was driven by 50-year-old man from Appleton. He is uninjured.
• Semi-tractor trailer was driven by 38-year-old man from Seymour. He is uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation, and the other involved drivers are cooperating fully with the investigation.

The southbound lanes of I-41 were closed for 5.5 hours for the investigation and scene cleanup. We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
