TWO RIVERS, Wis. (NBC 26) - One person is dead after an overnight shooting in Two Rivers. Police said a man has been arrested in connection to the case.

The Two Rivers Police dispatch center received a call just before midnight Monday reporting a disturbance in the 1800 block of 28th Street. The caller said one person had been shot. When police arrived they found a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.

Police attempted life-saving measures but they were unsuccessful. Police said he died at the scene.

In an update on Tuesday afternoon, Two Rivers Police said they had arrested a 21-year-old Manitowoc man, Joshua Walcott. He was taken to Manitowoc County Jail and police said charges related to this death investigation will be referred to the Manitowoc County District Attorney's Office.

Two Rivers Police also said several other people were taken into custody on charges related to this incident.

Police said people ran away from the scene and it's possible other evidence in the case may exist. Police ask the public to contact them if they find items that don't belong to them or appear suspicious. If you come across a suspicious item, police said don't touch it and contact Two Rivers Police.

"Obviously we never want to see something like this happen in our community," says Two Rivers Police Chief Brian Kohlmeier. Watch video of the scene:

The police chief said a number of people were in the home at the time of the shooting, and a number of persons of interest are currently in custody. The Manitowoc Police Department and Manitowoc County SWAT Team assisted in interviewing those people.

The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office, Manitowoc County Coroner's Office, the Wisconsin Department of Justice, and the Wisconsin State Patrol also helped in the investigation.

Police said the area of 28th Street could be blocked off to traffic for several hours.

They say the public is not in danger. The investigation is currently ongoing.
