APPLETON — It's Olympic Week at the Boys and Girls Club in Appleton. U.S.A. Luge athletes came to teach the kids about the Olympic sport.
Athlete Brittney Arndt and 2014 bronze Olympic medalist Erin Hamlin spoke about the sport on Friday. They answered questions and got the boys and girls warmed up in the gym.
Afterward the children met Coach Aidan Kelly outside and learned how to luge on a street sled.
"It's a great opportunity for us to kind of give back, get into the community a little bit and get some exposure for our sport,” said Hamlin. “We know it's not one of the mainstream sports and anytime we can get it out there for kids to try, that's how we get our pipeline of athletes."
This Saturday and Sunday, U.S.A. Luge will also be hosting its annual slider search recruiting event in Appleton. The event is free and open to the public.
It will be held between Broadway and Ballard Road. There are two sessions each day, one from 9 a.m. to noon and the other is 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
