OCONTO (WGBA) -- It was a difficult end to 2019 for Oconto residents. Flooding, snow and ice ravaged the community and trapping residents in their homes.
"We were pretty much home-bound," said Cindy Agen, a resident who significant damage to her basement. "It was like a river outside our home, full of ice and water."
The city of Oconto declared a flood emergency earlier this week as some snow melted and more fell - leaving pools of water all over city streets.
"We lost our washer, our sub-pump also broke," Agen said. "We saw the water start to bubble up from the drain and it turned into about a foot in our basement."
2019 has been the year of bad flood. From Fond Du Lac to Green Bay and now to Oconto, many residents suffered damage from flooding.
"I was losing sleep some nights," Agen said. "I just didn't know what was going to happen."
What makes this one different is the time of year. The water in Agen's basement was mostly melted ice.
"We went to check on the furnace, and it was freezing cold," Agen said. "It was like walking through an ice bath."
The flood emergency has been lifted. Agen now has to do a lot of clean up from her basement. The city plans to hold extra trash pick up to help residents.
