GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — On Monday night a school board member with the Oconto Falls School District abruptly resigned. It happened during a scheduled board meeting.
“I hereby submit my resignation effective immediately. I hope my views have been constructive,” said former school board member Sharon Stodola-Eslien.
Stodola-Eslien read a five-page letter to the board expressing why she was departing.
“Keep in mind, people don’t leave bad jobs, they leave usually because of bad bosses, poor management, and those who don’t appreciate their value,” Stodola-Eslien said.
In her statements, she was referring to the current superintendent. After announcing her resignation, she immediately walked out of the board room.
Following the comments, the board meeting continued to go on with the regularly scheduled agenda. No other board member said anything else regarding the resignation during the school board meeting.
The board released a statement Tuesday afternoon:
The Oconto Falls School District Board of Education issues this statement following Board Member Sharon Stodola-Eslien’s unfortunate commentary during the public comment period of the Board’s meeting this evening. The Board unanimously accepted the resignation she tendered at the end of her comments and will move forward with filling the vacancy. The Board wishes to clarify that Ms. Stodola-Eslien’s comments do not reflect the sentiment of the Board as a whole. Her statement was materially inaccurate on several confidential matters that came before the Board. Her actions are damaging to the efforts of the Board, the Administration, and every dedicated member of the district staff who work tirelessly to benefit each and every student. The Board supports the administration and the efforts of the staff. The Oconto Falls School District is doing great things to benefit our students and we remain focused on that effort.
