APPLETON (NBC 26) — Michael Suess, a nurse at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton, has created a big painting in honor of Nurses Week.
Suess said he painted the mural to show that nurses are larger than life.
"One of the floor managers asked me if I wanted to draw a mural up there," he said. "I was like 'Oh, yeah. But it would be cooler if I did all of them. All the windows, and make one big connecting mural.' So they got management approval and I drew it up on a sketch, and they thought it was great."
It took Suess about a week to complete working on the mural after his nursing hours. He said he started on the 8th floor and worked his way down -- running outside a lot to double check how it was coming together.
"We've had kind of a tough time in the last year because of COVID," he said. "A lot of us are burnt out and I think we needed a little taste of culture and stuff like that. So I thought it would mean a lot with a little bit of pride like we can do it. Follow through and stick with it."
Suess said he hopes the mural inspires others to go into nursing.
