FOND DU LAC, Wis. (NBC 26) — Summer collegiate baseball returned to Herr Baker Field on Memorial Day as the Fond Du Lac Dockspiders smothered the Green Bay Booyah, 13-3. Both teams will be hosting fans at 100% capacity this season after last year's play was shortened and limited attendance.

"I was just thinking on the walk in how not insignificant this is," Justin Jansen, a game attendee said. "How great it is to see all of the people from the community coming here. Everyone is smiling and you can see each other's smiles."

There are no mask requirements for the outdoor events. Some are choosing to continue wearing masks, like the Zimmerman family.

"We're just being very precautious," Amy Zimmerman said. "We're going to be wearing our masks, and we're glad we're all going to be outside, and we're hoping everyone will do safe distancing."

The Zimmermans are season ticket holders with the Dockspiders. Today's opener was their first time back at Herr Baker since 2019.

"We had to find other fun things to do around the house since we weren't able to come here," Zimmerman said.

Many locals are glad to have a staple in their summer routine back.

"We're glad to be back. We look forward to this because I don't like going all the way to Milwaukee," Dockspiders fan James Krug said. "It's too hard when you're handicapped. This is so much better."

For the Booyah's home opener on June 1, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free bratwurst at 24 oz. Pepsi product. Capital Credit Union Park holds 2,200 fans.
